What Is a Domain Category and Why Group Domains at All?
KB-3.6 · 1 min · Updated September 2026
As a portfolio grows, managing every domain individually becomes impractical. The same nameserver change, DNS setup, or renewal setting often needs to apply to many domains at once, and doing that one domain at a time invites both wasted effort and inconsistency between domains that should be configured identically.
A category is an organizational grouping that solves this: domains assigned to the same category can share settings — DNS records, nameservers, auto-renew behavior, privacy protection, and more — configured once at the category level and applied automatically to every domain inside it, rather than repeated domain by domain. Categories can be organized however makes sense for how you actually use your portfolio: by client, by project, by TLD, or by intended use.
NameBright's implementation of this concept is covered step by step in Create a Category, Move Domains into a Category, and Apply Shared Settings to a Whole Category.
